In case of missing children

Towards the launch of the number 0848 116 000 in Switzerland

The Sarah Oberson Foundation, The Swiss Foundation of the International Social Service and Missing Children Switzerland are joining together to promote the launch in Switzerland of the European emergency number 116 000 in case of disappearance of a child. Calling 116 000 enables families of missing children to obtain information, an attentive listening and a professional support at any time. This is in addition to and compatible with the abduction alert system set up in our country in 2010.

The number 116 000, staffed by trained professionals in several languages, offers an attentive listening. It is free of charge and accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Its aim is to ensure better coordination of searches by the competent authorities at a national and European level. It is at present up and running in 17 European countries, including France, Italy and Germany.

Operational links will be selected in each canton in collaboration with the competent authorities, notably the cantonal police. A follow-up committee consisting of all the partners will also be set up.

The Sarah Oberson Foundation and the Swiss Foundation of the International Social Service are actively supporting the launch of the number 0848 116 000 in Switzerland through Missing Children Switzerland.
