Programmes abroad

In cooperation with local ministries and professionals involved in the protection of children ISS seeks to resolve problems facing children who do not have the opportunity to grow up within their own family. We aim to provide these children with ample protection and an environment matching their particular needs by developing alternatives to traditional orphanage-type institutions. We work on bringing about a reform of education for children in troubled or economically underdeveloped areas by offering them a genuine home.

Due to the fact that transnational migration is increasing and that the industrialised world has limited capacities to absorb immmigrants from non-industrialised countries, ISS has been launching programmes abroad since 2002.

The aim is to prevent migration at risk (trafficking and various exploitations), in order to give young people better prospects for the future in their country of origin.  Furthermore, it seeks to protect and re-integrate young people facing difficulties in their attempt to emigrate.

In cooperation with its partners ISS develops programmes geared towards the protection - as well as the social and professional integration into society - of children who do not have the opportunity to grow up within their own family.

ISS programmes aim to develop practices that will improve the quality of each individual child’s personal development.

For all our activities we build partnerships with State Authorities in the countries involved in order to guarantee a lasting impact of our work.

The main activities of the Swiss branch of ISS focus on Eastern Europe and West Africa.

However, we are prepared to intervene in the field of transnational social work in all countries where the ISS network has pertinent partners.
